A Note From Our Team
My name is Dorothy and I’m an internationally bestselling author. Foluke and I came up with the idea of The PRECIOUS Book Box to help make self-care and reading part of their everyone’s routine. The PRECIOUS Book Box is also a way for us to champion Black authors and Black-owned brands.
A little more about me…

A TV adaptation loosely based on The Ice Cream Girls was first shown on ITV1 in 2013.
My name is Foluke and I’m the woman behind The Precious Network, a platform aimed at celebrating and making visible the achievements of women of colour. was born out of a desire to create something uplifting in these unsteady times. I think we both felt a responsibility to be a positive force and provide a platform for something we were both incredibly passionate about – Black voices in literature and business.
A little bit more about me…
Foluke Akinlose MBE founded Precious in 1999, the first digital magazine for women of colour in the UK. Precious quickly became the go-to-resource for women of colour looking for advice and support on anything from the best beauty products to business resources.
Building on the success of the brand, Foluke went on to launch the Precious Awards in 2007 to champion ambitious women of colour by rewarding their business achievements. This was followed in 2018 by the Precious Lifestyle Awards, which applaud the achievements of women of colour across the creative industries; and Precious Girls, which aims to provide access to positive female role models, and instil positive images and beliefs amongst young women and girls with a range of programmes and events taking place in schools and colleges across the UK.
